Mission and Goals

  • AN ENJOYABLE EVENING
    • We hope that the Roundtable will become a unique space in the New Orleans’ university context where the art of hospitality can revive, encourage, and sustain the simple pleasures that have always made great universities a refuge of civility and human connection.
  • ENCOURAGE INCLUSIVE AND CRITICAL THINKING
    • We hope that the Roundtable will always be a place where the “balkanization” of the scholarly endeavor can be overcome. We desire to see fresh connections across disciplines, deepened relationships between universities, and the burgeoning of lasting intellectual and scientific collaborations and even personal friendships where trust and grace are employed in the light of real disagreements. We hope that conversations begun at Faculty Roundtable dinners will continue in classrooms, seminars, coffee shops, and in every corner of New Orleans and beyond.
  • EDIFYING INTERACTION
    • We hope the Roundtable will be a place where interaction across the boundaries of discipline and field will actually spark innovative new approaches to all sorts of research questions and intellectual quandaries. (Recent research suggests that such interaction is, in fact, vital to innovation!)
  • ENRICHING OUR TEACHING AND MENTORING
    • We hope that edifying interactions and extended conversations will make us better thinkers, teachers and mentors. And that our New Orleans universities will flourish as institutions that build lives and serve students and society.
